On 2022, I had the chance to visit my late father’s hometown. I did not exactly expect anything from that trip, but as strange as it may seem I could feel him embracing me there: in the waves that ran through the sea, the lavender plants that swayed with the wind, and the sun shining tirelessly in the vast horizon.
And that led me to return home and to dig up more about him. And as it happened, there were a lot of photographical archives that we have of him and from him. A collection of these photographs, best comes in pairs an invitation for readers to join me on the voyage of discovering my late father.

best comes in pairs starts with my trip to his hometown (I. The Death of a Star). I expected nothing out of that trip, but to my surprise, as I sifted through old photographs, I found that even through time and space we shared similar experiences in that town. The second photobook (II. Passport) takes on a dos-a-dos format. It is the memories that I experienced together with him in our travels, that curiously he and I experienced these travels also separately at different times. The third book (III. Photo Album), a film photo album, represents his journey in life that spans thirty years, starting from the 70’s and ends in ‘00. The fourth book (IV. Memories) represents my recollections of him—limited, fragmental, and incomplete though they may be. The last book (V. Transcript), securely bound within the box, comprises an interview transcript elucidating the narrative behind best comes in pairs and delves into the essence of its title.
This five books-in-a-box tells the story of lost memories and self discovery. It is an obituary to a departed soul, a eulogy of bygone days and warm memories—but most of all, it is a love letter to an individual who profoundly influenced those nearest to them.
